"Under Investigation" collaborative movie trailer project 

 

Introduction 
 
This project expects us to work together as a team to create a movie trailer using a box containing "evidence".We had to make use of materials found in the box to develop a plot and main characters for a film noir. Finally, we were also required to document and story tell every step of this project.

Work Flow
 
-Open mystery box with group members
-Take photos of mystery box items 
-Create a story using items found in box with the team.
-Create a hypothesis for the crime and story
-Present our created story to the class for feedback and questions 
-finalize the story outline and character biographies
-Upload wips on Bechance for feedback
-using Adobe Draw and Adobe Sketch, complete character sketches 
-Send sketches from the iPad to adobe illustrator, then sending them to the shared group creative cloud folder for the groups accessibility 
-Create a nine panel and three panel storyboard using Adobe Draw, send to Adobe Illustrator, save to the groups creative cloud folder, then import files to Adobe Comp to create storyboard panels)
-Create film poster rough using imported sketches from Adobe Draw (using adobe comp)

-Create a 3d illustration of the characters using Adobe fuse

-Create a trailer using  adobe after effects and and the 3d illustions of the charaters.
-Finalize a Film noir trailer

Movie Name: “My Own Good”

Where: Downtown Chicago
 
Story:
-Back from vacation Tiffany pulls up in driveway
-Sees masked woman climbing out of her 4th story apartment window to the fire escape
-Woman noticed she is seen so she jumps to opposite fire escape of neighbouring building and climbs to the top
Needing a distraction she tosses a few smoke pellets at her feet and runs for it, as smoke clears Tiffany cannot see where the woman has gone
-Tiffany hurries inside to see if anything is missing, notices that the vault behind her mothers painting is open
-The silver dragon orbs are missing, she falls to the ground in a heap
-Orbs beyond precious, stolen long ago, about 130 years by one of her family members (Tiffany doesn’t know but it's her Great-Great-Grandmother (Gretchen Mayfield) who did it) from a Chinese museum
-Since then only her family members know about it and it's been passed down from mother to daughter throughout the family
-Tiffany decides that police wouldn’t help since orbs are stolen, so she calls an old friend, Kendrick Crow, who's been working many years as a mercenary
-Kendrick goes to all the neighbours to ask if they saw the woman who did the crime, a couple of them say they did see Barbara (the mother) of tiffany entering the apartment shortly before
-Kendrick (who also goes by K.C.) goes to the houses of some known local,  millionaire, art collectors. catches the mother (Barbara Mayfield) walking up to one of the houses holding the orbs 
-When Barbara explains to him that tiffany was never going to take the risk to sell them, she decided to steal them back and try herself. She goes into saying how much money she could make (4 million 1949 dollars) and decides to bribe him by giving him a quarter of the profits, which is far more than tiffany was going to pay him. 
-They make the agreement that if they get the money she would lie to tiffany and say she only got 100 thousand for the orbs, only to give her 50 thousand. They go inside the art collectors house. he loves the orbs and purchases them 
-K.c brings Barbara back to tiffany, and quickly leaves with a brief case in hand 
-Barbara then explains to Tiffany why she stole the orbs and that it would be beneficial for all of them 
-Tiffany is shocked by how little money they got and starts talking about how she thought they would get in the millions, we leave the storey with the screen closing up on barbaras suspicious smile.

Personality: Very practical and down to earth, always looks as though he is angry but he is deep down a very nice person, and is very caring, he doesnt care about anything invaluable to him, and is only interested in his "job" 
Special Features: Muscular, chiseled face, beard, always has a very stern expression in his face
accessories: Wears a brown hat that his ex-cop father left for him, smokes alot of cigarettes and still manages to stay fit, always wears a dress shirt and tie, in the colder months he often wears a brown trench coat, he secretly carries a small pistol and handcuffs 
Hobbies: He is a resigned detective for unknown reasons and now continues his passion of finding bad people working secretly as a mercenary

Movie Poster 
For our Movie poster design we were assigned to reaserch film noir posters of the specific era, in the process of my design, i i discovered that the posters used exiting and bright colour, it also always write the names of the main characers on the poster.

sometimes it made used of patterns and comtinious bright strokes in typography.

Conclusion

          This project required us to create a fictional crime in the Film Noir style. Throughout the project we had to document our creative process, using Behance.
     i enjoyed experimenting with different programs, and loved working with ny group memebers. we were enabled to use many different Adobe programs including Draw, Sketch, Comp, Fuse, and Mixamo. I learned how to use  the Adobe Creative Cloud, and i learnt how to draw with an ipad.
          I am happy I was able to learn about 3d animations,render a 3D animation to exactly how i want it to look like.
          I found one of the greatest challenges of this project to be creating a plausible storyline, and then transferring that information into a storyboard format.  If I was to do anything better in this project, I would document my work properly in behance. 
          This assignment allowed me come into the world of digital storytelling, and really enjoyed the project in general.
