Planet Smash
3D Space-Shooter. Student project, 2012
Scope: 4-week student project. 4 programmers, 2 artists.
My Role: Concept-sketch / pre-vis, Modeling, Texturing.
Engine: Custom engine expanded on by students

Smash all the planets in the solar system to win while fighting off hoards of intergalactic enemies. Grab enemies and debris with your laser-whip to hurl at planets or other enemies.
Our ship receives heavy fire while attempting to grab a Frigate-Ship and hurl it into the planet.
A moon is destroyed! Now if only we'd hit the planet! watch out for the sun!
Throughout pre-production I researched shaders and worked on our asset-pipeline. I also concepted a 4 ships and made quick pre-vis shots to demonstrate background parallax and some planet shading methods.
Textured planet shaders for use in-game These are our planets!
One groovy shader on a sphere emitting particles and rendered out in maya to be used as a billboard in-game.
I assisted with modeling, texturing and optimizing the ships. They were seen from very far away, turns out we didn't actually need normal maps at all. We should have skipped the entire process!
Eventually the time came when promotional material was needed. I whipped up a cover art piece depicting our hero ship flying around the Dyson Sphere which for the sake of it's construction, is the purpose for our hero ship to be destroying other local planets.
And a team logo for our splash screen :)
In conclusion, I think we all learnt how to streamline our pipelines for future projects. We received recognition at the time for visual zazz. Overall a fun project I was happy to work on.
