GROUNDSOUND
an outdoor floor instrument
GroundSound is an outdoor music instrument that will be located outside the new PopCenter in Schousplass in Oslo, Norway. The music tiles are made of light-transmitting concrete. When they step inside the installation, the users are surprised by colored light and music.
The red, yellow and blue colours represent different kinds of sound; a single tone, a beat or a melody. The tiles light up as long as they are playing. The installation is reprogrammable so that it is possible to change playmodes, music and the colour of the light. If the installtion is used for a performance, the area around it will also control the music. The more movement and people around, higher the volume and the tempo of the music will be. The installation presents a colour and light show to attract new players when it has not been used in a while.
