City of Scottsdale Currency, Spring 2012
The development of a community currency was a project I worked on for my Graphic Design V class. We were to pick any city in the world and develop a currency for it. Scottsdale, Arizona is the city I chose to work with. After doing hours research on the city, I developed a unique currency design for the city if it were to have it's own currency. A major part of the project assigned was to keep in mind how counterfeiting would be prevented. I chose to incorporate complex line work as a way to prevent counterfeiting. My inspiration came from the desert colors, along with the cultural history of the area. I wanted to make the bills have a modern feel since Scottsdale is a very modern city, but I also wanted to incorporate the rich Native American history of the area. The modern feel comes through in the typography while the cultural history comes through in the images of the pottery and Kokopelli on the bills.
