The Pistachio packaging was created in attempt to make a more functional design. The box is not only more visually appealing then a plastic wrapper, it also serves as multiple containers. The lid can be used for discarded shells, while one is eating the pistachios. The materials used to create this package are also economically friendly, seeing as how pistachios are generally a more expensive nut to begin with.
