Kurbits is a Swedish folk art style originating in Dalarna, recognizable by its use of floral motifs and flowing shapes. Here I have interpreted the traditional art through flat vector illustration. One for each season of the year - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

The next step was to bring the four designs into physical form - by printing them onto tote bags.

And coasters too.

Process:

I started out sketching on paper with graphite to get a sense of how I wanted the shapes to look, how it should flow and where each item in the illustration would look best. Then I used theses sketches as references in Adobe Illustrator as I created the digital illustrations.
