Jess Bryan's profile

Under Investigation: Jessica Bryan

Introduction:

The objective of this project is to form a team of investigators who will collaborate on exploring a “Mystery Box” full of important artefacts or clues, and thus using these artefacts and clues to develop the rudimentary plot and characters of a Fictional Mystery that will eventually be developed into a film presented in the Film Noir Style. The story must revolve around a crime that has been committed, which cannot be a murder, and our team has to piece together the evidence, and solve the crime. Further development for this project, our team addresses the  WHO WHAT WHY WHERE WHEN & HOW from the artefacts and develop a Movie Trailer, Poster using Adobe Mobile Apps such as Premiere Clip, Comp and Illustrator Draw.

Our "While you were gone"Plot:

Our story is one of love, turmoil, deceit and crime!!!

We learn that Veronica, our protanganist, has travelled to Italy to study cardiology. She is married to a Russian man, Vladamir, who is our antagonist in the story. He is back in Canada patiently waiting for his love to return home to him. The distance does not make the heart grow fonder in this tragic love story, for Veronica falls in love with a seductive Italian man, named Guiliano, who is also her patient in the cardiologist office where she is learning.  Veronica dreams up a new life for herself while she is in Italy. She is impatient with her husband, and feels trapped in her marriage. Vladamir has been having issues at his job, and his anger grows each passing day. Veronica envisions a new life for herself with Giuliano, and with that idea in her head she knows she must get away from her failing marriage, and destructive husband.
One afternoon Veronica runs into Guiliano on her way to work, she knows Giuliano feels the attraction too, and with these urges they cannot resist their temptation for eachother any longer. Veronica feels guilty, but also thrives in this new sense of being, and her love for Guiliano grows stronger. She wants to cement her new life with Giuliano, and leave everything behind in Cananda. She soon finds out that she is pregnant with Guiliano's child !!!!!!! This new discovery is a blessing in disguise, Giuliano tells Veronica they cannot live in secret anymore, she must choose.  Veronica decides to write home to Vladamir that she will not be returning, and she plans to stay in Italy. She tells Vladmir that she is not happy, that they should divorce, and that she will never see him again.

8 months pass....... Vladamir has been suffering, and has grown so bitter over Veronica. He has not let her go yet in his heart or mind. He was living in denial, drinking, and becoming an insufferable being. He knows he must see Veronica one more ttime to finish this battle in his body, so he decides to travel to Italy and win back his love, who has abondonded him. Mean while Veronica and Giuliano have made a new life for themselves, and are successful and happy, awaiting the birth of their baby.

Upon arrival, Vladamir must be sneaky, and decides he will observe his wife before she knows he is in Italy just yet. He asks around from locals about Veronica, and learns of where she lives and works. Vladamir continues to follow Veronica around the city, and in his wickedness he learns of her new love, and her growing baby.  The shock of this new discovery infuriates Vladamir, and he goes into a violet rage. he decides to come back when the baby is born and devises a plan to break up Veronica's new life she has made for herself. The baby is born sometime that week, and while Giuliano is out getting things for V, and the baby, Vladamir charges in his way. There is a confrontation that night. A big fist fight in the street, and Vladamir loses. He knows he must act soon, before Veronica leaves or goes into hiding. Vladamir returns late that night, and creeps into the house, and kidnaps the baby!

Vladamir tries to take the baby back to Canada, but Giuliano sees the pain in Veronicas eyes, and knows that she will take her own life if Giuliano does not get the baby back safely. Since this is Giulianos hometown, he calls up his old crew of  friends to track down Vladamir and get back his baby! They seize Vladamir at the airport, and get him arrested, and the baby is returned safely to Veronica to live a happy life in Italy.

Posters of Film Noir for reference and inspiration.

These three images best fit the While You Were Gone stylistic elements.
Pictures below feature a figure in the night, spying or lurking which is Vladamir's character.
As well as bright red and yellow hues significant of the film noir genre. I chose the images of seduction and love twist because they are particular to our theme and storyline.

Fuse Character Veronica : 3 D Animation

Here, Veronica is placed walking around in Italy in a "stride rigging" technique used with Mixamo program.
Fuse Characters: 3 D animation- Scenes of the night

Veronica "Fuse " character and Giuliano "Fuse" character created with Mixamo program, adding rigging techniques to place characters in certain positions. Here I have Veronica in a standing pose and Giulianoin a kneeling/praying position, and they are  together in a scene of the night, as Giuliano is expressing his love for Veronica.
In Conclusion:

The objective of this project was to create a film Noir story with objects found in our mystery box, and to explain the who, what, where, when, and why of the story. It was interesting to develop the idea of the story surronding these random objects, and it was a good tool to work with in a group setting, for our team was able to bounce ideas off eachother while we each discovered items in the mystery box. The issue for us was not including murder, since we kept resorting to that, and realizing that was not a component of the assignment allowed in our storyline.  We  finally settled on a love twist of sorts for our story, and made the crime about a baby being stolen.

The materials we used to help create the story were :
Adobe Photoshop Sketch, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator Draw, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Comp, Adobe InDesign CC, Adobe Premiere Clip, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe Media Encoder, Fuse, Mixamo, Behance, TUFTS VUE  & mystery box items.

Alot of these programs were very new for me, and I had never used most of them before. I was very impressed by the Fuse program, and thought the extreme detail to character developement that the program provides to be extrodinary, and I could have played around with its features for quite awhile.
I also enjoyed the aspects of developing a poster with the Adobe comp, and Adobe Draw apps. I have already used the program for another project in one of my other courses, and I like the freestyle vibe of the drawing.

For our team to communicate, and share work with eachother we created a team, "The May Company", on Behance, and were able to post our deliverables in this team page, so that we can share with eachother what we had made, and also to share with the class, and other classes what our progress was with our story, and each step along the way. I found this to be the best tool to help with questions, get ideas, or just to appreciate others work, and allow each team to see the different ideas that developed from the mystery boxes.

Overall, I think it was diffcult to always complete full details sometimes, and it was very time consuming, for one could work on some program for a long hours, and still feel like you could have added more, or done more.  I feel like I learned alot of new programs, and functions, and tools, so that was a benefit. Our team and I were pleased with how our story turned out, and I felt that the details of the mystery box, down to character development, and using programs such as Fuse, helped to bring each task to a fuller story, and make the storyline richer, and come full circle
