The tulip vase
Study of the different shapes of tulip vases, mostly blue delftware. Vases in all shapes and sizes were used for tulips during Tulip mania or tulipomania; a period in the Dutch Golden Age (17th century). Only the richest could afford these products. Dutch potters started imitating Chinese porcelain after the supply to Europe was interrupted.
Delftware however is no porcelain (china) but tin glazed pottery (earthenware) made in the Netherlands (Delft) from the 16th to the 18th century.
