Project Summary
The SNS REAAL mobile app is an e-reader designed and produced for SNS REAAL by aFrogleap in Amsterdam. My role was Visual Designer. In approaching the project, I worked within brand guidelines to create a visual design that embraced and expressed their brand.
One of the challenges of designing mobile applications is extending the client’s brand, forging an emotional connection with the user, and ensuring that the user doesn’t have to think about how to use the app. It needs to be intuitive. The visual design component requires the ability to think outside the box while using a soft touch. Often this includes using the standard controls but infusing them with a fresh identity. It embraces a high level of detail and a low level of complexity.
Design Process
After researching SNS and reading through the content of the e-reader, I realized that what was needed was a visual design that fit within the UI guidelines for the iPhone, but also was subtly different. This embraced both the Dutch sensibility as well as the forward thinking of SNS.
