100 Hammers
Project M North 2010
100 Hammers is a collaborative project created by Project M North 2010 in memory ofDavid McLaughlin, a Maine-based craftsman and collector who passed away only days after meeting with our group in May of 2010. David spent his life inspiring others not just through his art but through his passion to see and bring new life to otherwise unwanted materials. We’ve gathered 100 second-hand hammers and intend to honor and spread his philosophy of reuse and creation by passing them along to people who will give them a life they otherwise wouldn’t have had—giving each hammer a new story and adding to it's unique history.

Here's how it works: Participants choose an available hammer from our collection and are asked to create a project with it (in whatever form it may take, think wrong!). Once created, they share their project on our site and are invited to participate in a group show (slated for 2011, stay tuned for details). The hammer is then passed on to another person who will continue it's cycle of creation or shipped back to the 100 Hammers library.
