This project was made for the discipline Multidisciplinary Project of the University of Salford. The task was prepare and present a group design proposal for the Newton Building on Peel Park Campus which includes refurbishing interior, retrofitting exterior envelope and extension of this construction to provide a state of the art conference facility and university restaurant along with traditional classroom and educational spaces.
 
The Newton Building represents a key building within the Peel Park Campus of the University of Salford. With the development of the Gateway Building (new Adelphi) the Newton Building stands in contrast as one of the most outdated buildings on the Campus. It is the aim of the Facilities management department to upgrade this building both internally and externally to provide a fitting building for this location on the campus.
 
The work was developed by teams that consist part time and full time students of different courses: Architectural Design and Technology, Building Surveying, Construction Project Management, Property Management and Investment and Quantity Surveying, in order to provide holistic solutions to relevant construction industry problems.
 
The new building challenge is to achieve adopt sustainable strategies and be efficient in it resource consumption, therefore the design incorporates sustainability strategies - passive and active control – such as sustainable facade with rock fibre compressed with organic binding agente, extensive green roof, solar tiles and green concrete.
