KAISER PERMANENTE  Total Health Environments.
Great brands evoke emotional experiences. Great brands donot leave details to chance.
When members and visitors come to KaiserPermanente they expect toexperience the “Total Health” promise they see in our advertisingcampaign. The Total HealthEnvironment initiative began as a study into creating a distinct and consistentenvironment across Kaiser Permanente buildings and to provide a setting forcare that was consistent with the company’s brand promise of “Total Health.” Asuccessful project, from the point-of-view of the   managementteam, would generate attainable and relevant design solutions to enable qualityhuman experiences at our facilities and would generate strategies forimplementing these solutions across all eight Kaiser Permanente regions.
At the project’s inception, the Total Health Environmentteam started with five key questions related to what people experience in ahealth care setting:
Can an environment inspire, influence, and communicategood health, or at least avoid negative effects that could be detrimental togood health?
Are there universaldesign elements that influence our members’ interactions within a health careenvironment?
Are the processes, expectations, and experiences of membersdifferent for a medical office visit than a hospital stay?
Do peopleconsciously perceive and respond to their surroundings, to what extent, andhow?
Can design influence peoples’ experiences in our spaces?
