The Gyuto Tantric Monastery

First established in 1475 in Lhasa, Tibet, The Gyuto Tantric Monastery was once home to 1,000 monks at the time of the Chinese invasion into Tibet.

In the spring of 1959, 60 Gyuto monks escaped their homelands of Tibet to India with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on an arduous journey across the Himalayas. These 60 monks initiated the Gyuto monastery now found today in Dharmashala, India.
