The task at hand was to choose three functions in a government website and design icons for them. The functions are required to not have pre-existing icons, and the new icons should work even out of their natural context.
I chose the Indian Visa Application website.
The functions I chose are Visa Overview, Visa Application and Photo Requirements.
Process
I explored different styles for the icons, and for its components. I finally decided to go with icons in one point perspective, and settled on certain stroke thicknesses to give a sense of uniformity to the icon.
The icons are SVG files which can be modified to be responsive, i.e., their code can be manipulated to shed extraneous elements as their size gets smaller.
