Dubai 2030 Amphibious Vehicle

Industrial Design
The central issue / Reasons for doing the project:

The idea of developing the Amphi-X was pretty much given to me on a article, which I had read on the Top Gear magazine. The article described the current amphibious vehicle designs and how we could really  use an alternative route of traveling rather then traveling on the busy congested roads in our cities. The article clearly stated that the current designs of the amphibious vehicle are shameful, and should be executed much better than having a large hull underneath a car body, or water propeller sticking out from the back of a car. This was one of the key point in letting me to take on the challenge of really blending both features of a boat and a car into a aesthetically appealing amphibious vehicle.

The other main point mentioned in the article, which sparked me in pursuing such a project, was that, many major cities had been clogged up with cars, designers or automotive industries are trying hard to deliver compact and small vehicle for those who live close to cities, yet not much people had realized that nearly every major cities in the world has a virtually unused set of arterial waterways running straight through it. And instead of being stressfully stacked in traffic, we could use the rivers or waterways to turn every stressful journey into a pleasant cruise along the water.

And due to the insufficient space within major cities, many countries had already started to expand out man made island or lands in order to occupy the space needed for our needs. These man made lands can be identified in Hong Kong air port, which part of the airport are lands that had been expanded out into the ocean, others such as the palm island and the construction of the world island are all artificial man made lands in order to occupy more resident due to the insufficient space on land.

For all these reasons and points, i had decided to design an aesthetically pleasing amphibious vehicle for Dubai 2030.
The Aim:

The aim of this projectis to design an efficient yet effective personal transportation for the future“World Island” located in Dubai. As the “Man made” residency of the Worldisland had been divided up into many smaller island, it is clear that a land /water vehicle would be a major attraction for these wealthy resident / touristto purchase and to enjoy the convenience of travelling on both road (land) andsea (water).

The Vehicle alsoincorporate some of the design detail, which are seen on iconic architecturalbuildings in the present as well as the future of Dubai, with additionalattention on the cultural aesthetic, which makes the vehicle it self into amajor attraction or icon in the futuristic fast developing city of Dubai.
Operational Instruction: How it works.

Materials & Technologies:
Sketch & Rendering Developments:
 Clay Model:

Images below are the final development stage of the clay model, which i had been progressed for weeks.
The size of the clay model is roughly 1:10 scale. The final model had been 3D scanned and brought into Alias.
Amphi - X Final Model:

The Final model had been made out of CNC ABS plastic, The Scale of the Model is roughly 1:8. Other parts such as the wheels or any other smaller details had been developed through SLA / Object printing.
