New Day Work Projects
New Day works, Hawaii works, government works
Since the beginning of this year, Neil Abercrombie approved over 50 Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) as part of his campaign to provide jobs and nourish the economy under a program called the New Day Work Projects. The kinds of projects include the modernizations of airports, repairing schools and fixing roads. Redeveloping these structures are for the benefit of the community. Stated by Governor Abercrombie, the goal of the New Day Work Projects is to “directly attack unemployment by putting people to work right away… It will provide and economic boost that will reverberate throughout the state and result in paychecks for families.”

The goal of the project is to develop a mock identity system for the New Day Work Projects that will communicate visually the objectives of the program – putting people back to work to create a sustainable and secure economy. The design is developed with the general public in mind, so that the identity is accessible to all ages. The visual identity includes a typeface treatment to be easily readable and communicate stability and a suite of icons, to visually identify the different sections of projects in the landscape. For example, a pencil may signify education on the developer signage to refer to a public school renovation. Ultimately, the identity system conveys that New Day works, Hawaii works, and government works.
