Space of coexistence presents the philosophy of Yejin Eom and reflects Eom’s method of working in frequentative forms of gate series. She pondered over the connection and essence of living and nonliving objects and awareness of the being’s existence led her to cognize the truth of essence of her own – invisible forces. Her idea has started from the Asian’s mythological theory Yin and Yang and five elements. invisible forces, KI氣. The study of energy which never visibly shown to men, invisible forces, KI(氣), emerged from the quest of the truth of being and it has demonstrated in superstitious and spiritual way. Eom sees energies behind object rather than appreciate its physical exterior. For Eom, intangible force is the true spirituality of every object. These gates are the pathway of forces and they do not represent particular object but it would be given a rebirth its meanings by every single viewers. The contemplation about ontological value and phenomenological being of universal phenomena has explored in a minimal, conceptual, and spatial way of creation. Eom’s works revolve around the notion of encounter - seeing the bare existence of what is actually beyond, behind and next to us. In the show space, empty space between one gate and another provides the pathway for audience to walk around. Whether the black painting on canvas, paper, metal or wall painting, her works in space educe illusion, never-ended repetition that engage the viewer to consider the relation of these gates and when the viewer optically framed in the gate with the different perspective or distance, the cognition of coexistence would be revealed.

공존
 

보이지 않는 것들과 보이는 것들의 사이. 존재자와 비존재자 그리고 시공간 사이에서 일어나는 상호작용들은 또 다른 존재자를 형성한다. 이러한 상호작용은 살아있는 것과 살아있지 않은 것의 경계를 깨트리며 우리가 있는 시공간에서 고요히 부동한다. 존재의 본질은 언제나 자신에게 있고 그것의 한계 또한 마찬가지다. 캔버스, 벽화, 종이, 철로 만들어진 문들은 존재하는, 또 존재하지 않는 것들의 보이지 않는 움직임, 기(氣) 의 통로다. 어떤 문도 특정한 사물을 칭하고 있지 않으며, 그것의 존재는 보는 이에 따라 지속적으로 변화하며 새롭게 태어난다. 벌거벗은 존재의 앞에서야 비로소 우리 앞에 무엇이 있는지를 깨닫게 한다. 나에게 창작은 내가 무엇인지를 연구하는 활동이다. 연구하는 과정에서 만들어진 작품들은 또 다른 ‘나’이며, 새로 태어난 존재 자체다. 이렇게 ‘나’와 그것들의 움직임 그리고 관객이 공존할 때 새로 태어난 무언가를 느끼길 바란다.작품 안의 반복되는 프레임 안에서, 관객이 시각적으로 (다양한 거리 안에서 혹은 관점에서, 프레임안에 들어갔을 때) 그것을 인식함으로 작품과 자신의 관계를 생각하게 한다.
