Maria Schaerrer Busuttil — Branding + Invitation

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Born in Malta, Maria Schaerrer Busuttil is a Maltese sculptor, painter and ceramics artist. This particular project showcases the creation of the branding identity, and the invitation for the solo exhibition taking place in Valletta.
All visual materials take into consideration her future exhibitions, both locally and abroad.

Whether a hand-crafted piece of ceramic, sculpture or painting, it was a challenge to study Schaerrer's style, translate
it in an elegant way, and at the same time respect the versatility that each piece of her art bears.

Even though Versatility is the core element featuring this project, by working through the various textures, subjects and colours their dimensions were amplified in order to reach a uniform visual identity. The black and white colour palette is preferred in this project as it gives a warm feeling while it provides the flexibility needed for the artist to hop from one style to another without unsettling the perspective of the audience.

Overall the branding identity reflects the artist’s lifelong passion for art and at the same time invites the audience to be absorb by her inner vibrancies and grace.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Elegant and abstract, Maria’s works are the result of a lifelong passion for the artistic, mirroring her interpretation
of the world around her. Today, the artist’s beautiful and unique worksgrace homes around the world.

Deeply influenced by the artist’s travels, each creation – whether a hand-crafted piece of ceramic, sculpture or
painting – is a reflection, interpretation and reaction to the distinct sounds, smells and sights of the local culture
and landscape. Maria is an avid traveler, and her nomadic lifestyle has taken her all over the world – from Scotland
to Montana, Morocco to Tanzania, Mozambique and everywhere in between. Having spent most of her life abroad
in Switzerland and the United States, the artist has only recently returned to her home country, the Mediterranean Island of Malta.

Maria’s personal inspiration stems from iconic artists such as Georgia Totto O’Keeffe (1887-1986), often referred
to as the mother of American modernism. The artist attended the Polytechnic Institute in Malta and studied interior design at Rhodec International. As a painter and sculptor, she is predominantly self-taught, discovering her love for ceramics in her mid-thirties, under the tutelage of renowned Swiss Sculptor, Karl Lukas Honegger.

The artist’s work is ever evolving creating art which is highly versatile, ranging from the realistic to the deeply impressionistic and incorporates a diverse range of mediums and materials. Often integrating woods, sand
and clay into her paints, Maria’s works are creative pieces of passion and beauty, infused with vibrant
colours that bring forth an energy both deeply personal and endowed with an inherent grace.
