Subtle & Bold Office Building Photo Shoot...
Thomas Zimmerman is an experienced Boulder, CO based architect who has designed many commercial and residential projects over several years. Tom designed this 2007 project, a 5 year old Class A office building on 28th Street just a few blocks north of 'Whole Foods Market' and the '29th Street Mall'. He happened to notice how good it looked with now mature landscaping while driving to his office one morning last summer. He asked me to take a look at it and assess it for possible photography. It didn't take long for me to see it's potential. It's a very bold well proportioned building with great curb appeal well accented by an arbor, large trees and flowering shrubs.

Bonus vantage points became evident when I explored an adjacent riparian swale with bike paths that converged on the north west side. I waited for some time and shot many exposures to acquire these people walking into the frame at just the right spot.
Dramatic exterior accent lighting begged for a twilight view. Some lights were not working and required post production adjustments to 'correct'.
This man made water diversion swale was anchored by large boulders, shrubs and grasses and a well used east/west bike path.
This 3/4 view captures the signage at the southeast corner and the main entrance portico on the left.
Choosing the right season, the right day, and the right time of day are very important. Seasonal foliage, weather, quality & direction of light, clouds, presence of unwanted parked vehicles, traffic and more are just a few of the considerations that go into executing a successful exterior photo shoot. The beautiful skies in these photographs were authentic. Digital post production does however play a significant role in the successful interpretation of an architectural project.
