“…The building is located in Lutsk, Ukraine, in a city of 200 thousand inhabitants, where the contemporary architecture only is starting to grow.
The main client’s wish was to make the reconstruction, functional and notional rethinking of a common existing architectural structure and to achieve completely new image of the house by the minimal intervention into it.
The new architectural structure was attained with the help of functional re-planning, minimization and reduction of the needless parts of the house and is characterized by a clear form language. The use of the achromatic colours gave to the building sculptural character, and serves as a background for existing plants.
The decoration of the façades is based on the pure geometrical forms which are nothing else than an interpretation of the Ukrainian ancient ornament. The main forms of the ornament, the rhombus, cross and the square, contain a deep symbolic meanings such as: Cross – symbol of a Sun and Fire, symbol of an eternal life; Rhombus – symbol of a fertility and a sown field; Square – Earth, integrity, plenitude and fairness. Thereby, these meanings were embodied into the body of the house…”
