"The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Chicago Department of Transportation partnered to create an opportunity for a dynamic visual expression of Chicago’s cultural vitality as a major element of the important Loop Link transit project...The intention for the Loop Link art component is to offer pedestrians and commuters aesthetic encounters that highlight the fluid movement of life in a swift- moving corridor of a great urban center. Located in Chicago’s heart of enterprise, government and culture, the Loop Link art component should create a visually dynamic expression in consonance with the city's great architectural, art and design legacy, while actively moving that legacy into the future."
Chicago artist Faheem Majeed invited me to collaborate with him in producing the graphic images for his entry. The visuals are colorful recreations and reinterpretations of neighborhood landmarks. The idea of landmark expressed in these compositions steps away from the traditional and expected pieces of architecture and instead draws from cultural significance, history, fair representation, etc.
