Alice: Madness Returns (Royal Suit)

This costume was one of my first really large projects. Initially thought to be quite a simple concept, it evolved into a rather complicated design with a multitude of small details. I am so happy with the way it evolved, because I learned an incredible number of new skills, the patience required for hours of hand sewing, and I believe the finished product is all the better for it.
This was also my first project that involved complex prop design. I created the Vorpal Blade out of Sintra, cut out and adhered the design on the knife, painted it with silver spray paint, and acrylics for weathering and blood effect, and sealed the blood with glossy Modge Podge to keep it looking wet.
I started with a basic dress pattern, and altered it for the style that I was looking for. I then addded all decorative pieces, and finally fully lined the entire bodice. I patterned the sleeves, gloves and bow/apron entirely from scratch, and altered boots with my own buckle harnesses made from pleather and Sintra (PVC foam board.)
I created the abstract heart-shaped skull with layered sheets of Sintra, sanded into shape, and painted with acrylics.
