Camel Racing in the United Arab Emirates

Camel Racing in the United Arab Emirates
An exploration of the way that the bedouin lifestyle has been altered in the modern day.
This project explores the impact that modern technology has had on an age old sport. Camel Racing was once a bedouin past time that was used to celebrate weddings, in the modern day it has been upgraded and named the 'Sport of Sheikhs.' Remote controlled robotic devices are used to spur young, female camels toward the finish line of a 5-8km track, alongside the track is a herd of SUVs driven by the owners and trainers of the camels. Mainly focusing on the race track at Al Lisalli, Dubai, the project uses a diverse range of images to explore all aspects of the sport. As gambling is illegal in the UAE, no betting is permitted, however, the victorious camels owners are rewarded with cash prizes and SUVs.
