Cinema Cosmos Pavilion

THE COSMOS SCREEN
In 2012 Collective Cinema Cosmos and the Chamber of Architects (Bulgaria), supported the cause for saving the emblematic cinema Cosmos of demolishing it and turning it from a public ownership into a private. A  Bunch of citizens and local activists, behind the managing of the two organizations,  saved, cleaned and turned into a contemporary place for culture.
In 2013 as a continue of the cause Collective CInema Cosmos and The Chambers of Architects decided to pay attention to the outside area of the Cinema and create a park place for outdoor movie projections, exhibitions, place to relax, place for meetings which every such building should be surrounded.
The project for the pavilion is inspired from the original proportions of the cinema screen. They are used in the original architectural project from the architect of the building ( arch. Lubomir Shinkov ), as proportions of the main facade volumes of the cinema. So repeating the proportions Collective Cinema Cosmos created a smaller version of the screen in the area in front of the building. This screen was used for open area movie projections. Except the screen the pavilion creates an original labirith for open air exhibitions, where the first one was a photography exhibition of architecture among Plovdiv. All the construction is sponsored by private investigators and constructed by Collective Cinema Cosmos.
In the mood of the socialist architecture we made concrete places to sit in the same proportions again. They remind of the monumental forms and volumes of the middle 20th century. And with a little refreshing of the paving Collective Cinema Cosmos showed again how the place can look like , trying to convince the municipality to pay attention to this significant space of the central part of the European capital of culture for 2019 year - Plovdiv
