Hair dryer 1.1 - SUPERLOCAL, 0 miles production

Hairdryer 1.1

The second hairdryer produced by the network has been made in San Lorenzo district, in Rome (IT). The district is connotated by two main activities: the university of Rome (La Sapienza), and on the old historical cimitery (Verano). Therefore, most of the local craftsmen are working for one of the two. Close to the cimitery there are many little workshops making marble headstones. While on the other side there are craftsmen making glass tools for the chemistry/physics laboratories of the university. In addition, right in the heart of san lorenzo there is Rotalab, a design studio that is composed by two people, Giorgio and Tommaso. They know the area really well as they have been working for many years in contact with the local workshops. The main part of the hardryer has been made by a glass blower called Giuseppe Russo (vetro scientifica), while the handle is a wood leftover from a previous project of ROTALAB and it is steam bended. The filters, both on the front and on the back, have been 3D printed by the local fablab. The product is suggested for curly hair.

The object has been designed by Andrea de Chirico according to the context. The inspiration comes from a megaphone (megaphono means big hairdryer in roman dialect). It represents the protest of the makers for their condition in the Italian society.
