SUPERLOCAL, 0 miles production (set 1.0).

production set 1.0 trailer video
It is urgent that we update our methods of production. They cannot exist any longer just to maximize efficiency or profits; instead production must address social and environmental viability.

We are a group of designers who believe that the future of production will be characterized by making things locally. We believe that there is a need for an alternative to the traditional, industrial way of producing goods. We believe in the raise of networks as the new and best generators of social and economic value. Finally, it's a fact that producing locally means less shipping and therefore less pollution.

We designed some production lines in the town of Eindhoven, finding and connecting resources, materials and labor all found within a short bike ride, in order to make everyday objects: an hair dryer, a dressing table, a mirror, a lamp and a stool (production 1.0).

The production 1.0 (beta) is released in open source on the system website, and serves as the starting point for an evolutionary process applied to objects.

The goal of SUPERLOCAL is to provide an open production database for making everyday objects, and thereby give creative and critical tools to people for re-creating their world.

Hairdryer 1.0

The hairdryer 1.0 is the first attempt to produce something within the network. It is one of the infinite production chain possible. It is the result of the collaboration between a glass blower, the local fablab and the design academy’s wood workshop. The electric components were found in the metal junkyard and they were the starting point for the design of the object. Materials have been chosen because both glass and cork are reusable. It will be soon available on the market.

This project is the result of the collaboration between people from different fields, sharing the common ground of Eindhoven:

Suppliers: CIVO art supplies, Brigatti electronics, Teunissen metal junk yard, Yoga school Eindhoven.
Manufacturers: Kees Berende (glass blower), Fab Lab Brainport Eindhoven (3D printed joining parts), DAE wood workshop (cork handle), Sami Sabik (electric components).
Retailers: hopefully it will have some soon!

MAN. TIME: 15 hours
MAN. AREA: 4.5 km

Table 1.0

Table 1.0 is a dressing table produced in Doornakkers district, in Eindhoven (NL). It is composed by two elements: the laser cut structure, and the table top, which is a carrara marble stone piece. The structure has been laser cut in the "digifab" in sectie C, in the east of Eindhoven. The top has been manufactured in a stone workshop called "Kluijtmans", which is normally producing gravestones. The concept is that the structure can be adjusted on every size you want, while the top part can be added according to personal taste or local availability.

Here is the website of the natural stone federation benelux.

Mirror 1.0

Mirror 1.0 is part of "Eindh-Made" network, in fact it has been produced within the town of Eindhoven (NL). It starts from a wooden piece bought in the local bricolage supplier (Gamma/Praxis) and 3 kilos of bronze found in the local Metal Junk Yard. After making a mould out of the wooden piece, it has been casted in bronze. The idea is to have a clamp item that would function on every different size of mirror, adapting on its thickness and shape. Every element is demolishable and the bronze can be always melted down and re-casted into a new production line. The object has been designed from the network in order to be in pair with the hairdryer 1.0, that has been produced in town as well.

Stool 1.0

Stool 1.0 is the result of the collaboration between a quilter called Sam, and the local laser cutting service called "seeyoulaser". The velvet comes from a local second hand textile supplier called "tissen and furnituren". The laser cut structure is based on the same principle of the table 1.0. On the other hand the top can be changed into many different configurations.
