Design of a Luminic Object | Alvar Aalto-inspired Lamp

School of Architecture UPRRP | First Year - Fall 2011

This project explored an object or artifact with real materials where the attributes and qualities of the materials are explored: features such as opacity, transparency or translucency are investigated, plus textures, stiffness and flexibility. The light object dialogues with the Aalto Vase of the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), in the shape and flexibility of the piece, utilizing one of the architect's favorite materials: wood. The lamp has an acrilic frame that supports an outer layer of thin veneer tiger wood; it  has two pieces similar in form to that of the Aalto Vase that fit and hang from one another.
