Ohio State Journalism student, Alexa Odom, came to OSU Press seeking knowledge and help on a book she had a dream to produce for the Ohio Staters. I agreed to provide consultation and help on her project and she let me design the book for the Ohio Staters. From my first meeting with Alexa, until the printed books were received in hand, it took over a year. But in that year, she gained an immersion into the world of publishing and learned what most people learn on the job after several years. Getting everyone coordinated and on schedule is frustrating. Production is detailed and slow. It seems like the only person excited about your book is you. But even during hectic finals for herself and no one submitting essays on schedule, Alexa endured and kept at her dream. I am so proud of her for her final product. The magic finally happened when she received her books in hand-- it was real. She was excited and so were the people around her! The Buckeyes are Believin' book now sits proudly in the libraries of Ohio State, alongside many other important books and writers of Ohio State. Alexa is a testament of a faithful and believin' Buckeye. Her story of endurance through uncertain times is one of many personal belief essays in the book assembled to encourage growth and understanding together within the Buckeye Community.
