One per day: Week 7 - Macro Photography

The following series of images were taken due to this weeks exercise of practising techniques involving macro technology.
Adventure 1
This image was inspired by a tree and its roots which formed a small area underneath which if taken up close as it has been looks like a mysterious cave with vines hanging down. This image is the first of a series that follows the girl in the photo and her adventure through various landscapes, this one being a dark cavern. The photo has a dark colour scheme creating a somber atmosphere which is also contributed by the figures serious face, shadows, and the depth of focus used to blur out the majority of the background and foreground. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/250 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100. This is one of my favourite images out of this series and I had much fun figuring out where to pose her.
Adventure 2
The motivation for this image was rather than having the girls upper torso in the photo frame as it will be in the rest of the series, only her feet will be shown to create an ambigiuos and vague image that keeps the viewers guessing. Depth of focus is utilised, with the grass and girls leg the centre of focus. Emotions in the picture include vitality as represented by the grass, and uncertainty and perhaps a sense of loneliness - we do not know what the girl is going to do next on her adventure however she is alone. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/160 sec, f/8, ISO 800.
Adventure 3
The inspiration for this image came from a small ravine of rocks and I thought it would be interesting if I made it seem as if the girl was climbing.  The contrast between colours and background and foreground are particularly noticable due to this images depth of field. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/250 sec, f/2.8, ISO 400. Texture is also clearly visible in this image and give it a slightly grainy feel, making this stretch of the adventure appear rough and ragged.
Adventure 4
The reasoning behind this image was to make it seem as if the figure was walking through a forest. The dark green gives the photograph a serious atmosphere but dappled lighting on the side of the girl face and her leaves does not make it too somber but rather determined. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/250 sec, f/2.8, ISO 400. Depth of focus is another compositional element of the photo.
Adventure 5
A branch on a tree was spotted which seemed to be a perfect place to place the figure of the girl. The colour scheme of this image are mainly brown undertones and I personally feel like this photograph is slightly lonely. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/40 sec, f/5.6, ISO 200. The phtograph also uses the rule of thirds technique.
Adventure 6
Inspiration for this photo came from the white flowers as I thought it'd make a pretty photograph if we also added in the girl figure. The rule of thirds is used in the composition and this particular image is the brightest in contrast with all the others in the series. The white of the flowers gives off a pure and gentle feeling which is in juxtaposition with the severe, rough and brown textures and colours of the other photographs gives the photographs a harsh scene. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/50 sec, f/8, ISO 200.
Adventure 7
The final image in this series was inspired by how if a photo of a trees roots were taken up close as this, it would appear to be a cliff which was further emphasised by the girl clutching to tree leaves when in reality it is only a branch. Once again there is a brown colour scheme present, however with this image comes a sense of desperation with the figure of a the girl in a vulnerable position, as well as most literally being a 'cliff hanger'. A dslr camera with macro lens was used with the following settings: 1/60 sec, f/5.6, ISO 800. Depth of focus is once again used as a compositional element.
Pole Dancing
This series features a man with a camera head, most of the images are meant to be satire and taken lightly. The inspiration for this photo came from when I saw a pole and thought it would be random if we took a photo of it with the figure and thus the end result. Camera settings used were: 1/50 sec, f/7.1, ISO 100 . The lighting played a large role in the composition of the image and thus resulting in a warm, bright atmosphere, suited to the comedy tone that was aimed at. I had to somehow find a way to attach him to the pole which was challengeing and fun.
Draw me like one of your french girls
When I first started out on this weeks assignment, I particularly wanted to use this figure in a the pose from the popular meme so that is where the idea for this image came from.  Camera settings used were: 1/50 sec, f/5, ISO 200. The figure was place on a movable object that looked like a spiral, as seen in the image above it is red and white which was in contrast to the black background. This was in order to make the photo seem surreal and I believe I have achived this. The actual process of posing the figure was quite difficult as it kept falling but resulted in some very hilarious poses.
Gangsta
The entire idea for this image was sparked when I saw a narrow alleway. The figure is posed with elegance and confidence. Lighting was an especially important component in this composition and I belive it has been utilised successfully, not only by creating shadow but also by highlighting sections of the figures shirt which give it a smart look. Camera settings used were: 1/160 sec, f/7.1, ISO 800. Personally I feel if a few more filters were added it would look like the poster for a Noir film,
