Illustrated and coded in fits and bursts over a year, this image serves as a tribute to Caspar David Friedrich's 'Wanderer above the Sea of Fog', an artwork that pits man against the world, gazing into the unknown. A fitting metaphor for the uncertain future of my hometown Hong Kong, as well as my own sense of place and identity.

 

Inspired by Campo Cantos' website for their upcoming video game Firewatch, I modified this image to employ a similar parallax effect, splitting the illustration into multiple layers that scroll at different speeds. The result is a landscape that appears to be three-dimensional as you move down the page.
