Lyme Disease Awareness Posters

For this project I was asked to create three posters depicting a social issue; I chose to depict Lyme Disease and its high rate of infection, as I feel that it is an issue which gets very little attention and it is something very near and dear to my heart. Because Lyme Disease is a rather horrific issue, I took inspiration from classic horror/sci-fi movies and used a stark red, black, and white color scheme. Above is a mockup created in Photoshop of all three posters together. Below, each individual poster as well as process work.
"TICKZILLA" is obviously based off the movie "Godzilla." From an early stage in the project I knew I wanted to have a gigantic tick rampaging through a city.
"This poster was inspired by Hitchcock's "The Birds." This one was the most fun to make with all those little ticks.
This poster is inspired by alien invasion movies as a genre, though the title obviously pays homage to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
Early thumbnail concepts, from before I nailed down the horror/scifi movie theme. They're all based off of facts about Lyme Disease; for instance, the thumbnail on the bottom left relates to how Lyme Disease is often misdiagnosed as other diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis.
Early concept for the alien invasion poster. It was originally set at ground level, watching the ticks descend from above, but I felt that the illustration needed to have a more global scale to it.
Updated alien invasion concept sketch.
Preliminary sketch for "The Ticks."
Preliminary sketch for "TICKZILLA."
