Greenpeace Organic Farming Documentary

Agriculture is the backbone of Kenya’s national economy. It contributes directly to 24 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 65 percent of export earnings. Through its links to various sectors it indirectly contributes a further 27 percent to the country’s GDP. However, the need to address food security concerns, improve farmers’ livelihoods and difficult climate change problems that are affecting farmers’ produce, Kenya has to start looking for viable options and solutions to these challenges.

Small scale farming accounts for over 75 percent of farming, therefore, as broader discussions around the improvement and ultimate development of the agricultural sector are taking place, it is critical to note the importance of the smallholder farmers because their survival is at stake.
These are small-scale farmers who share stories of hope, resilience and determination in the face of climate adversity. For them it’s not just about sustenance, but a way of living.
