Homemaker: The Ultimate Career

I seriously love handlettering. I love the process, the precision, the ability to convey a thought, and the sheer openness of creativity that our 26 lovely letters allow.

Here is a look at my process from start to finish for a typical handlettering piece.
The very first phase is of course finding a quote/text to handletter. I was looking up quotes by C.S. Lewis in particular because I just love the guy. I landed on his quote about homemakers. It struck a chord with me because homemaker is what I desire to be most. No, not wealthy, world-renowned artist or graphic designer extraordinaire. I want to be a homemaker - the steward of my home, husband, son, and above all my God.

Pardon the rambling... after choosing the quote, I then thumbnail ideas out until I come up with a composition that tickles my fancy.
I then recreate that composition on a larger scale and refine it. A ruler or protracter come into play at this point as well so I can achieve a more precise design.
I then scan the refined composition into the computer and begin the process of vectoring. I feel like I should create a tutorial for this at some point... hopefully I get there one of these days.
Here's a fully colored version that I liked pretty well. But I decided to push it a bit further.
And then voila! The completed piece in all its glory.
Thank you for getting this far and checking out my process. You're the best!
