Final version [for now]. The following pictures are how this started as an idea a few years ago and how I stumbled across it again recently and decided to update it.
Figure 1.
The painting, circa 2011. Looking back now, it's bad.
Like, really bad.
But I still think it would make a decent design for a poster so lets give it a digital makeover.

Figure 2.
The first draft sketch in Illustrator.
Made using pen tool, live paint, and gradiant.
This captured more or less the lines I intended in the original painting.
But something was off about the flat colors. The gradiant was not accomplishing what I wanted for a background.
So let's take the lines into Photoshop and see what we can do.
Figure 3.
First draft in photoshop.
After recreating the illustrator version in PS, I swapped the gradiant for a textured bg.
I decided to keep pushing it and ended up scrapping the hair. The black was very heavy and felt very immature.
After playing with the background, toning down the blue highlights, and losing the black, I was pleased.

Critiques are welcomed.
Thanks for checking out my work!
