Το 61 της Ελευθερίου Βενιζέλου,αριθμεί μια από τις 20 προσφυγικές πολυκατοικίες του Ταύρου. Είναι ένα απ΄ τα ογκώδη αρχιτεκτονικά κτίσματα της Απριλιανής δικτατορίας που κατασκευάστηκαν για να στεγάσουν τους εκατοντάδες μικρασιάτες πρόσφυγες που ζούσαν στην περιοχή,μετατρέποντας την από παραγκούπολη σε μια βαλκανική Σοβιετία. Σήμερα στέκει επιβλητικά στην περιοχή σαν άξιος πρεσβευτής μιας εγκατάλειψης,που συμπυκνώνει στα 90 διαμερίσματα του την αποξένωση,το φόβο,τον ατομικισμό,τη μοναξιά και την έλλειψη επικοινωνίας μεταξύ των κατοίκων του,καθρεφτίζοντας τη μεγαλούπολη στις κλειστές του πόρτες. Μια σύγχρονη Βαβέλ,όπου ο καθένας είναι μόνος του,ανάμεσα σε τόσο κόσμο.

 

 

At number 61 of the Eleftherios Venizelos Street in the area of Tauros, one of 20 refugee block of flats is located. It is one of the large sized architectural buildings that were constructed during the ‘Aprilian’ dictatorship to house hundreds of refugees from Mikra Asia (Greeks that were expelled from Turkey) who lived in the area, transforming the area from a shantytown into a Balkan Soviet. Today the building stands imposingly in the region as a worthy Ambassador of an abandonment that encapsulates the alienation, fear, individualism, loneliness and the lack of communication between residents from the 90 apartments, mirroring the city over its closed doors.
