Desassossego is an interactive installation that allows the user to construct a musical response (a musical composition, if you will) using colored felt triangles.
Within a 4 by 3 grid, the user can display various triangles. Depending on their color and position, you’ll be able to hear a different sound. Each quadrant offers four different triangle positions, and each position offers five variations depending on color. That’s a total of twenty sounds per quadrant.
The concept of this project was: let’s eliminate the known spoken and written language, let’s communicate with symbols. That way, you’re not just waiting for your turn to talk. You have to decode messages, you have to make that effort. So we created a dictionary, and wrote an encrypted manifest, and so on and so on. To that effect, there is also an extensive editorial project, that functions as a “starter kit”.
But we wanted sound to go with our symbols. So we wrote the code to make that happen.
