Instron Data Sheet

Challenge
Revamp the existing Data Sheet and ensure it’s consistent and works across for all areas of the business. The purpose of a Data Sheet is to provide accurate information on a product rather than to be used as a selling tool. It’s purely informative.

Solution
Firstly I worked a variety of people to establish and understand issues with the current Data Sheet and the areas that would need improving. Key points were a lack of images, cluttered pages and inconsistent headings resulting in a wide variation of type of content. Our current data sheets were designed using a very rigid template which I felt compromised the content of the piece for design. To ensure this wasn’t the case in the new proposal, I opted to split this into 4 pages – the front cover which displays an overview of the product with image, page 2 which holds more specific images to represent the features, benefits, and application range, page 3 for table information and page 4 for technical drawings. Dividing the information this way makes it clear for the customer, ensures specific pages can be kept for reference (i.e. technical drawings) and that the Data Sheet can be adapted to accommodate more than one page for each section of information if needed. The simple patterned background is optional dependent on the complexity of the front cover, but keeps the design cohesive with other aspects proposed for the Instron brand moving forward.
