History Speaks At The Ruins Of Hampi

Unlike any other village of India, the small village of Hampi is a world heritage site, as here stands the ruins of the mighty Vijaynagara Empire. Besides being a historical site, it is a Hindu pilgrimage. As per folklore, Lord Rama and Laxmana of the great Indian epic of Ramayana came here to seek help from Bali and Sugriv, the then rulers of Hampi, to rescue goddess Sita.
A visit to Hampi is incomplete without a visit to its Archaeological Museum. It consists of antiques and sculptures collected from the ruins of Hampi. These sculptures are religious statues of Goddess Durga, Shakti, Mahisasurmardini, Ganesha, Kartikeya and Bhairavi. The Central Hall of this museum is replica of the Hampi shrines and houses the idols of Shivalinga, Nandi and Dwaramantapa.
The Hanuman Temple, located at the Anjanadri Hill, is the birth place of Lord Hanumana. This shrine consists of a granite Hanumana statue and a small Ram Sita temple.
Along with chattering of numerous monkeys, this place is a nice spot to enjoy a mesmerizing sunrise. You can also visit the nearby temples of Pampa Sarovara, Anegondi Fort and Rishyamukha Sarovara.
The Vijaya Vittala Temple is one of the lavish religious structures of Hampi the temple is dedicated to Lord Vittala and is amazing with beautiful pillared halls. The large stone chariot is another masterpiece of Hampi.
The Virupaksha Temple was built for the prime God of the Vijaynagara kingdom, Lord Virupaksha. This 7th century holy structure is an ideal spot to witness the traditional way of worship of Hampi.
The Royal Enclosure of Hampi stands as a proof of the grandeur of the Vijaynagara rulers. From the pillared halls to the underground chambers, every part of this enclosure has a legend that you can know from the local guides.
