MooM was my second experiment, born in 2009 but probably it has been evolving since way earlier. The occasion came when a brand operating in the food industry asked me to work on some objects related to that specific market – so the food that is eaten without a proper dinner and lunch ritual.
This topic seemed really interesting since the beginning, because it really represents a culture phenomenon that is characterizing (and has been characterizing) this decade.

I started with the observation and study of all those behaviours and rituals that had become my own during my years at university.
Before then I was used to lunch and dinners with my parents and my three brothers, all sitting around one table chatting – not really chatting but playing with topics of conversation.

This type of behaviour is a ritual, it belongs to me as a family imprinting but it i salso very typical of the italian culture.
Supper time is a very important moment, around that we share joy, worries, balance and games.
Basically it is one of those magic moments we try to share anytime possible. (Since me and my three brothers are always travelling and unfortunately we have very few occasions to meet all together on the Lake Maggiore…)

The proposal I had received to think about a topic so culturally complex and characteristic became the occasion to try to translate with a little bit of irony and irreverence the evolution of this phenomenon.
It was at that point that I thought about designing a bowl, that was capable of holding a glass of wine, or maybe – like in the first drawings I had done – a candle, I wanted to regain all the poetry and romance of a meal, eating while standing or sitting, always dreaming about conversations of places to go, but this time with a nice candle light or a glass of red wine…

When I left my parent’s house to study, when I was sixteen, I found myself in the “adult world” – actually in the world of adult’s rutyals, made of fast lunchs and dinners and human relationships were way more complex than those I was used to.

Sometime the mother figure was missing, the one that in our family is a concentration of those values of sharing and the one that gathers all those rituals and relationships.
I found myself dining alone or with friends, not sitting at a table - but sitting on the couch or on the floor, maybe watching TV or the panorama outside the window.

The aesthetic that I decided to use were to represent clearly that esperienze, it had to bring and amplify thet thought in each one’s memory (or my memory at least), so I decided that the use of a maternal aesthetic and references to organic shapes and typically having reference to moms (every mom!) could become the right environment of formal experimentation…

So I decided, and found myself in this adventure, with this new object, nomadic and untypical but with a strong poetical potential…
