This first project for Typography and Page Layout was to create a water bottle label based on a deity from a provided list. After researching my options I picked Attis, a Phrygian god of vegetation who is said to have been born from an almond seed.

In my head I saw a green and yellow based color scheme with either sun or leaf design elements. I began sketching concepts and narrowed it down to three that I felt could work well.
I let the ideas sit for a day. I also posted my concepts to Facebook as well as to an onlline discussion board for my classmates to view. When I came back to the design the next day I decided to go with the first concept, using a leaf shape to surround the brand name of the water.
I was happy with the direction the design was headed in as a whole, but I felt there was something missing. The base elements where there, but it felt flat, almost lifeless. There wasn't anything to really grab the eye in my opinion. I felt the solution to this issue would be to use gradients in the design.
I added a gradient to the leaf design, trasitioning from a spring green at the stem to a golden yellow at the tip. I also added a light green to dark green gradient in the background, helping to focus the eye on the brand name and to give more warmth to the composition. The addition of bars to the top and bottom of the label gives the eye solid boundries and had a bonus side effect of aiding me in being able to better space the design elements.

I am happy with how this project turned out from initial concept to final product and am looking forward to the next assignment.
