F1 Suspension Art Lighting

This was a project to design art lighting to inspire and compliment the TEDx Austin 2013
conference's "Fearless" theme held at the Circuit of the America's new 100 million dollar
Formula 1 racetrack in Austin.  To design the piece we considered the shape of the track itself, its long sloping curves, which also mirrored the observation tower (designed by Miro Rivera Architects), as well.
The final piece was made of water-jet cut aluminum nearly, 10 feet long by 12" x 3/8" thick with layers of dichroic film and wireless, color changing LEDs on the upper deck. It looks like a combination of a section of the performance racetrack itself, a profile of one of the newer Formula 1 cars and/or a full sinewave frozen in time.
