"The Death of Marat with Butterfly" Artwork Response

"From the Hereafter" is the name I gave to my piece. Well, the second painting below is a response to the image of the artwork entitled "The Death of Marat with a Butterfly". When I first saw the image I wondered why did the professor assign me with that one in particular. "Oh! that butterfly that's me!" that was my reaction to the piece when I first viewed it online. That's due to a name I was given back at school by some professors, because I was so light in weight. I don't think that was the same reason Dr. Ann did pick that one for me, but anyway I reacted to it and that's what I did. After viewing the image, I surfed the internet and searched "The Death of Marat" and that's were I learned a bit about the history of the painting and the painter. I knew Marat had a skin disease and that required from him to soak his body in some kind of chemicals  in his bath tub. He was killed by some woman I don't quite remember why she did that but the painter chose to paint him in that position with a letter in his hand as honor to him. Talking about the reproduction of the artwork that is shown below, I think the artist added the butterfly to it, since a butterfly symbolizes change. Change here to me is moving to a new life, since the guy is no longer living, he moved to another world, the hereafter. I chose to imagine how this person would look like out there. Having in mind the butterfly symbolizing change, I somehow transformed his look. now he looks a bit feminine, I added my beloved curvatures to the hair and eyelashes. I used paper to cover his face, which I thought would outline his face since I didn't want to add color to the skin.
