A beacon of hope
A report documenting the daily life of 17-year-old Gawain Alexander Vincent, diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a condition that results in brain damage after birth, and meaning he has no coordination of his muscle movements.
When he was born prematurely all those 17 years ago, doctors assured that all would be well before placing him on an oxygen machine. But, after three days, the machine collapsed, and with it his lungs. By the time doctors realised something was wrong, the damage on the tiny tot was so huge that doctors had to place him on medication for a month. But this, according to his father Michael Vincent, made an bad situation even worse. Poor Gawain teetered on the verge of total collapse.

This medical lapse, made even worse by Gawain’s already fragile condition, caused harm to areas of the brain that control movement and posture. His parents noticed something was not well when, like many children with cerebral palsy, he became slow to roll over, sit, crawl, smile or walk.
