Light Design // 2015

A collection of my light design concepts designed in 2015.
Inspired by nature and beautiful objects.
Enjoy!

The asterix draws inspiration from cosmos and space, the bright and wonderful northern star that shines and stands out in a dark silent night. The look of an asterix was a great way to simplify and make the idea more playful. The idea evolved from different sketches and concepts, with the final design consisting of Cylindrical columns, stemming out from a united center that holds the light source looking like the Asterix symbol. It is, in design, and metaphorically, a Star.

The combination of two opposing concepts seems to always be intriguing. Sweet and sour mouth watering recipes, is one example. The black and white that are incorporated in fashion designs, high class furniture, and of course the famous chess pitch, are other examples. Domino adapts this approach, by providing the feeling that the light fixture blocks are slipping, while its still fixation suggest stability. You walk under the Domino, fearing the blocks will fall, and simultaneously assured that they won’t.

The sea, and the living creatures that dwell in its depths, are always a rich source of ideas and inspiration. We let the sea take us in a tour, and came back with a net filled with ideas. We were greatly fascinated with the tentacles of the octopus, those suckers in its arms that helps it move and feed. And after a couple of brainstorming sessions and constant sketches, the Octo was born.

Looking at a bouquet of flower always bring joy to a person’s heart. We associate happy and positive emotions when we see flowers gathered tightly in a hands grip. Now imagine that there is a bouquet sitting at your table, or dangling from you ceiling, in your home, or office, all the time. Imagine the happy feelings triggered, at day, because of its beautiful shape, and night when this shape gets led, and illuminates the space it is in, with delight and optimism. It is a bouquet of beauty, happiness, and illumination.

Geometry, simple geometry, is ignored at times, and at times, underestimated. The shape triangle, three lines connected together at their ends, forming an angle between each two, when utilized correctly, could result in the most simplistic beauty. We present to you Tri, when the triangles themselves join, edge to edge, side by side, to create, from the very building blocks of geometry, an artifact.

Amwaj is the Arabic word for waves, and from which our inspiration came. We thought of waves, of having them on top of each other in layers, rather than their horizontally consecutive nature. We then painted the different layers with a variety of colors of the same mood, to allow for diversity, and simultaneously, a cohesive one. Amwaj is a beauty, a resemblance of the sea, in the sky of your living room.

An oval shaped lamp that looks like a round edged summer cloud might be a common lighting fixture in the industry. We decided to use the shape and add a twist to it, something that will add beauty, class, and a secondary outlet to the light rays of the source. Lolita was then born, where we added to a classic shape, a pattern in its center, giving us a glimpse at the inside of the light, and giving the light and opportunity, of a glimpse at us.
