Crescendo Website
Giving a voice by teaching the use of the voice
Crescendo was developed for the class Digital Studio I at SCAD during spring quarter 2011. The goal was to create a website that would give people a voice that had no voice.
Coming from a background where music has always played an important role — as a member of 2 bands and 2 choirs — I appreciate how music has allowed me to express myself in a creative way. I learned that being exposed to music at an early age laid the foundation for a lot of positive developments in my life. Therefore, I decided to create a website for a fictive music program for children. Consisting of regular practice hours, frequent workshops, choir rehearsals and frequent shows, the project was intended to guide young children into the world of music, offering them a way to express themselves, to find their own voice.
The name crescendo is a play of the word "to grow" in Italian, which is also used in music to note that the volume is growing, while drawing the emphasis to the "DO" as a call to action.
The original concept was inspired by several project I have been part of in Germany. The photography was taken from websites of the original project in Germany and have been credited properly in the corresponding documentation. The website was only developed as a concept and did not go online, since the project itself is only fictive.
Bright colors and a clean layout intended to make the user feel invited to participate. Hence the colorful call to action buttons.
Information is broken down into short paragraphs, each section calling for action from the user.
As a project that lives of the participatory elements, the contact page offers various ways to get in touch with the project.
