In mathematics, we call the " Syracuse problem " a conjecture that states that if you start with any positive integer and perform a specific operation repeatedly — divide by two if the number is even, triple it and add one if the number is odd —, it will form a sequence that will eventually reach the number 1. Here, the initial positive integer was 7 257 480 091, more or less the world population.

En mathématique, on appelle conjecture de Syracuse une suite d’entiers naturels voulant que, après avoir subi une série d’itérations — on divise par 2 si le nombre est pair, on multiplie par 3 et on ajoute 1 s’il est impair —, tout entier naturel aboutisse inéluctablement à 1. Ici, le nombre de départ était 7 257 480 091, équivalant approximativement à la population mondiale.
