LET ME DOWN EASY
This was a student project based on a play by Anna Deavere Smith, where she (one actor) plays multiple characters. The play resonates the meaning of lost love, faith thru difficulty, and the end of life. Anna Deavere Smith creates a gallery of characters, each with their own story on how they cope with death. Smith performs each character perfectly, as though she is a different person each time she takes on a role.
The project was to design a promotional poster and banner ads for the play. Through research and inspiration, I decided to use skeleton hands shaping its fingers to heart to represent death. The hearts represent love and dripping blood, showing there is even compassion in death that the play strongly portrays. I used the font Herculanum that has an handwritten and boney feel that correlates to the skeletal hands. I wanted to poster to be simplistic, not so showy, to get the message across to viewers of what kind of play it is.
