Cookie Packaging
Many cookie packaging on the market make use of plastic trays to hold cookies, which are then wrapped in a plastic coverings. This is not only environmentally-unfriendly, but also makes the packaging difficult to be resealed or disposed of because of the amount of empty space it takes up in a regular-sized waste basket.
In this project, I used biodegradable materials and redesigned the structure of the box so it could be resealed and finally be disposed of more readily.
Regular pack
This structure attempts to solve both the resealability and disposability problem. It is a hexagon shaped box which is perforated into 4 different sections. Consumers can tear away the empty sections as they finish the cookies at their own pace, and use the top cap to reseal the packaging. At the end of each perforation is a little tab to make it easier for the users to start the tear. The cookie label containing the flavour and other information is a separate piece of folded card that could be removed from the box and put back again so that the information can still be retained after users tear away pieces of the box. When the box becomes too short for the label, the label, too, can be folded or torn away along the perforated lines, so that consumers can still see part of the label in order to know which flavour it is.

This is a wrapping for a large cookie that could bought individually at the supermarket. Using paper as the wrapper, it has perforated lines that allows consumers to tear along so that the top part comes off, while the bottom remains wrapped around the cookie. This bottom wrap has a downward scoop curve that makes it easier for the user to hold the cookie and bite off it. As this is a single serving pack, there is no need for a resealing function.

The lid also has an extension that keeps the box closed when it is stuffed into the bottom slit, as well as keeps the lid open and standing when it is stuffed into the slit at the back of the box. The box comes with a separate label card that can be stuffed into the back slit of the box when it is closed. And when the box is opened in the display form, the label card can be removed and replaced inside the box by stuffing it into the same slit inside, so as the let potential customers see what flavour it is.

The four boxes are joined together so that less materials would be used for wrapping and holding the 4 boxes together at the point of purchase. As the boxes are joined at the corners instead of at the sides, they are flexible to be bent at different directions to fit on a crowded buffet table. The joins are also perforated, so they could be torn apart to be consumed separately if the user wishes to do so. The boxes are smaller and have more manageable quantities of cookies to be eaten at one go and be disposed of conveniently. However, the boxes are also designed to be resealable should the user decides to keep any uneaten portions.
