Dreamcatcher
Fall 2011
This series of photographs were done for my 'Build It To Photograph It' class. Everything we photographed in the class had to be something we made ourselves. For this assignment we were only allowed to use completely natural, found materials. I decided to make a dreamcatcher because I have always been fascinated by dreams and the beliefs behind the dreamcatcher's origin and meaning. I used various vines found along a fence, and looped and tied them in knots to create a circular woven pattern. For the feathers I walked along the beach and found seagull feathers and then stuck them in between the loops of the vines so they would stay in place. I took the dreamcatcher to a few different locations around Newport that hold meaning to me and I find peaceful, to relate to the idea of only peaceful, pleasant dreams being allowed to filter through the dreamcatcher.
