Shadows in public spaces
Shadows and silhouettes in the city
This was an open-air guerilla installation located in various points around downtown Budapest. I was looking for ways to reflect on the historical and political context of several buildings (including a shopping mall, the controversial National Theatre of Hungary and so forth and so on) not as aggressively and more poetically than graffiti. I decided to use the effect of cast shadows on illuminated surfaces to the maximum: hence I designed silhouettes, inspired by local stories and free association. These silhouettes were then carefully placed between the source of light and the wall, so to cast large shadows. This was done over the course of an evening in 2008, with many preparations preceding the execution.
